Dr. Hadine Joffe quoted on NPR discussing Menopause, Depression, and Anxiety

In an article entitled, “For Some Women Nearing Menopause, Depression and Anxiety Can Spike“, published Jan. 16, 2020, Hadine Joffe, MD MSc, encourages women going through menopause to be direct about their mental health symptoms with their doctors.  “Just the same as they would if they had a rash . . . They would make an extra appointment and that’s the first thing they say, I have a rash”.  She explains that “most of the time women just try to tough it out.”

I want [women] to have permission. I want [women] to feel that they owe it to themselves and the people around them, that they aren’t suffering.
